Athens Bone and Joint

Worn out from dealing with "big box" medicine? A visit to the practice of Dr. John Dorris and Dr. David W. Bacastow shows that hands-on, personable healthcare providers still exist. Athens Bone and Joint offers subspecialty orthopedic care in a smaller environment with an attentive, efficient staff. The practice separates itself from other practices by establishing close relationships with patients and their families.

Athens Bone and Joint offers orthopedic surgery, sports medicine and total joint replacement including hand and foot surgery and fracture care as well. Dr. Dorris and Dr. Bacastow each have an individual interest in the treatment of shoulder and knee problems. Dr. Dorris, in addition, has specialty training in Sports Medicine.

Locally, Dr. Dorris served for seven years as a team doctor for The University of Georgia. In addition to working with a wide spectrum of student athletes, he traveled with the football team for three years.

A key interest for Dr. Dorris is in the area of joint replacement. "We're working on developing a longer lasting and better performing knee prosthesis," he says of his partnership with DJO Global, Inc., based out of Vista, California.

Dr. Bacastow has a special interest in the design of instumentation for Shoulder Arthroscopy.  He is also and active member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
